Partnerships

What began in 2020 as a partnership between The Share Trust and Warande, a Kenya-based organization founded by Chilande Kuloba-Warria, has grown into a different way of working across the Global Majority and the Global North. Over the years, we have built a partnership grounded in trust, shared leadership, open dialogue, and collective decision-making, challenging traditional models of international collaboration.

Together, we amplify local perspectives, engage policymakers and donors, and work to shift the systems that shape how resources and decisions are distributed. Our partnership demonstrates that equitable collaboration is not simply about working together, but about sharing power and creating the conditions for locally led change to thrive.

In partnership with the Trevor Noah Foundation we are piloting the Self Help Group (SHG) model in schools across Johannesburg, working closely with students and teachers to build peer support, skills development, and wellbeing.

Together, TNF and the team launched three SHGs across Johannesburg schools. Two student groups focus on addressing youth unemployment through skills sharing, while a teacher group focuses on mental health, stress management, and peer support. The pilot has generated valuable insights into both the opportunities and challenges of implementing SHGs in school communities, including leadership transitions, financial pressures, and the importance of strong peer networks and wellness practices.

The Share Trust partnered with Start Network, a global network of humanitarian organizations, to strengthen local leadership and support the development of a coalition of community-based organizations in Bangladesh. Together, we helped establish the Sundarban Coalition, a network of 16 local organizations working collaboratively to build climate-resilient communities across Bangladesh’s coastal regions.

Over the past six years, the partnership has mobilized $3 million to support locally led resilience efforts. The Sundarban Coalition demonstrates the power of long-term, trust-based partnerships and what is possible when local organizations are supported to lead solutions for their own communities.
